Cricket Tours to Antigua

Cricket tours to Antigua offer the archetypal Caribbean challenge. Like so many of it’s neighbours the island offers a dream touring destination, sun-drenched, fringed with dazzling white sand and set by a warm jade and aquamarine sea. Antigua’s rich cricketing history and pedigree needs know introduction at all.

The best time to go is the winter season in the Caribbean, between mid-December and mid-April: the weather is at its worst in Britain and at it’s driest in Antigua and provides the perfect pre-season touring preparation for any cricket team. The summer months are also beautiful and it can be the perfect place to test yourselves at the end of the season in the UK.

This island is the epitome of ‘Calypso Cricket’ having produced some of the most entertaining players in the history of the game. The most celebrated of Antigua’s sports legends, is Viv Richards, who ranks among the very greatest cricketers of all time. One cannot fully grasp the culture of Antigua without considering the island’s fierce devotion to cricket. The sport is played everywhere and at any time.

Where to stay in Antigua?

Jolly Beach Resort and Spa sits in 40 acres right on the excellent beach at Jolly Bay, a huge curve of sand on the west coast of Antigua. There is plenty of activity at the hotel and sports on its beach, and Jolly Bay itself is lively with a marina and restaurants, and even a golf club, all of which are within walking distance.

Jolly Bay is very much a resort hotel, with blocks of rooms stretched in a line in both directions from the central lobby, main dining room and bar. Its tropical gardens include wedding and massage gazebos, water sports shops and even a cricket pitch.

The best of Antigua’s beaches are the deserted stretches of sand in the south-west, beyond Jolly Bay. Day sails are always popular – take a trip to Rendezvous Bay in the south, the offshore islands of the north east or a sunset cruise along the west coast. Harmony Hall (open in the winter season) is lovely, lazy lunch with a view. If you tour St John’s, make sure to end up in the restored Redcliffe Quay for a drink.
