Rugby Sports Tour to Georgia
Sports Tour Overview
May 2018 saw the departure of 2 Yorks The Yorkshire Regiment rugby team depart Manchester Airport for their military rugby tour to Georgia. After a short stop in Istanbul, the team boarded their flight to Tbilisi where they were met by our Tour Manager, transferring them to their accommodation for the duration of the trip.
After some sleep and relaxation, the team had a welcome briefing from the FCO, continuing to training in Kiketi in preparation for the match the next day.
The team had a relaxing evening so that they were fresh and ready for their match against the RC Junkers the following day. After a fun and friendly match, the team was welcomed by the hosts to join them for some post-match refreshments and networking.
The next few days were left open for the soldiers to explore Tbilisi, enjoy a day of rafting and wine tasting. The few days of resting meant that the group felt prepared for their final match against Georgia MOD.
A thoroughly enjoyable tour was had by all in new surroundings, underlining the viability of Georgia as a modern and welcominh military rugby tour destination.
