Sports Tour Overview

In April 2019 MSG Tours debuted ‘Le Basque Tournament’. Hosted in the Basque region known as a rugby heartland that celebrates its traditional culture, it was clear it was going to be a tournament to remember. We whisked three U15’s district teams from the South Wales Valleys away to experience competitive fixtures, professional training and to be challenged trying new sports.

During the 4-day rugby tour, Islwyn Schools, Newport Schools and Cynon Valley Schools partook in a professional training session with ex prop Ben Broster in Bayonne, they watched a top 14 fixture between Biarritz and Colomiers and the tournament itself was held at the brilliant Zarautz Rugby Club.

Away from the rugby, the groups tried their hand at Surfing and Pelota, a traditional Basque sport. A trip to the Basque region wouldn’t be complete without indulging in local delicacies and some R & R at one of Europe’s most beautiful beaches La Concha, in San Sebastian. The tournament was a great team building experience for all and a fantastic introduction to the Basque Country. We are looking forward to planning our next Basque Rugby Tournament.
